💡 The process is very simple - basically just create an account in Discovery, and then select the journals you want to receive email alerts to. Don't be put off by the number of steps - they are to provide some additional information
1
Firstly, click on [Discovery](https://peninsulahealth.ovidds.com/)
Tip - if accessing Discovery offsite then you will need an [Athens](https://register.openathens.net/peninsulahealth.gov.au/register) login \
(if you create your Athens account offsite then use your work email)
2
If you don't have a Discovery account, click Sign Up. Otherwise Log in
3
Creating an account is useful for a number of reasons (as given further below)
4
1\. Click on the Journals tab\
2\. Enter a journal search term (e.g. diabetes)\
3\. Click on the green Search button (or just hit enter)
5
For any journal of interest, click on "Activate Journal Alert"\
(Under Access Information, notice that this journal has full text access from 2010-current, so articles in the alert email will provide immediate full text 🙂)
Tip - Not every journal offers a Journal Alert, and not every journal is in Discovery. If you cannot get an alert for the journal you want, see further below.
6
This journal, on the other hand, has a 1-year embargo (ie restriction). So articles in your email alert will have a purple "Request This" button
7
To view / delete journal alerts, click on your account name in top right
8
Then click Account
9
Then click Journal Alerts
Tip - Having a Discovery account also provides three additional benefits:
1\. Topic Alerts. You can save searches and enable email alerts for new matching articles - useful for staying up to date on a given topic\
\
2\. Bookmark favourite resources (such as ebooks and journals)
3\. Have the Request form autofill (as described further above). Useful if you make multiple requests
10
Here you can view your journal alerts and delete them if not useful
Additional Information:\
\
1\. If your journal doesn't have an Alert option, [email the Library](mailto:[email protected]) and we will look to setting up an alert for you using a different platform\
\
2\. Sometimes an alert email will say it has full text but then this is not available. This can be due to the alert being created ahead of the full text availability. In cases like this you can either wait or contact the Library
11
Now you will receive email alerts for new content in your selected journals
12
As previously, articles will have either a View Full Text or Request This button
Tip - Requesting an article of interest is **very easy** however.\
1\. Click on the purple "Request This" button\
2\. Your name and email will autofill (if you are logged in) or, if not, add your name and email then click Submit\
3\. That's it - generally the Library can provide you with the full text ✅
