Deploying a Corvian Weather Station

Tools needed for deployment: - 1/2" Wrench - Level (Preferably magnetic) - Hammer (to pound in tripod stakes) - Shovel or tool to level ground below tripod leg - 7/32" hex bit Optional: (the tripod stakes are lag bolts that can be driven into the ground if you don't want to hammer them in) - Impact driver - 3/4" impact socket

Equipment needed for deployment - Tripod - (3x) tripod stakes

Determine a good location to place your weather station

Things to look for when picking a spot for your station: - **Have it away from any obstructions like buildings or trees** - This makes sure the wind and rain measurements are accurate and not blocked by anything - A good rule of thumb is that for every 1 foot tall an obstruction is, be 10 feet away from it (100 feet away from a 10 foot tree) - **You'll want fairly level ground to place it on** - The station needs to be level to get the most accurate measurements - A slight slope or uneven ground can be compensated for, but avoid the sides of steep hills/ditches - **Place it far enough away from fields/entrances/roads that it won't be hit** - **Don't place it in the coverage of irrigation**

Open the tripod and place it in the desired location If there's tall grass in the area, stamp it down or cut it

Check the level on the tripod, do it one way and then rotate the level 90 degrees and check it again

If the tripod isn't level, use your shovel or digging tool to make a divot under the leg that is high to lower it

Place the tripod back in place

Check the level again in both directions

When the station is level, hammer or drive in the stakes for each leg, going through the large center hole on the leg's base Get the stakes all the way down and snug with the base and the ground - you don't want there to be any room for the base to slide up and down on the stake

Check the level again and if it's off, give the stakes on the high leg a couple hard strikes with the hammer to push it lower

Set your station in the tripod

Place the station so that the **solar panel faces south** to capture as much sunlight as possible during the day This also makes sure the anemometer is oriented to the North

Check the level on the station pole, do it one way and then rotate the level 90 degrees and check again If the level is slightly off, we can compensate with the brass plated bolts that hold the pole in place

Loosen all the nuts that are between the bolt head and tripod collar

Hold the pole level and hand tighten the bolts so that the ends are touching the pole Each bolt can be tightened to a different depth so that the pole can be angled to correct its level It can help if you pull out slightly while you turn so that the inside nut locks in place inside the collar and doesn't turn with the bolt

Use the 1/2" wrench to fully tighten the bolts against pole

Tighten the nut between the bolt head and the tripod collar, locking the bolt in place

If you disconnected the battery after assembling, you can reconnect it now by using the 7/32" hex bit to loosen the eight screws around the lid of the RTU

Make sure the battery cable is connected at all three points

Check the lights on the front of the RTU to make sure it's operating correctly

The lights will flash every 5 seconds during normal operation Note the color of the light and count the flashes to determine the status If you get any red lights indicating an problem with the RTU after connecting the battery, perform a power cycle by disconnecting the battery, waiting 15 seconds, and reconnecting the battery If the issue persists, call the Farmers Edge Support Hotline at (866) 858-4651

If the status looks good, replace the RTU lid and tighten down the screws

Your station is now deployed and collecting data Now we can fill out the station deployment form to add the station to FarmCommand

Click the plus (+) icon to start a new installation.

Select the appropriate Farm Name.

Navigate to the Station tab.

Type the Asset ID The next step shows the location of the asset ID tag

Remove the rain collection bucket by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it to find the 8-digit **Asset ID**

Type the Farmers Edge RTU Serial Number.

Here is the location of the **RTU Serial Number**

Open the Anemometer Type dropdown menu.

Click the anemometer type that is installed on your station

Navigate to the Location tab.

Enable "Use device location" to automatically retrieve coordinates.

Navigate to the Site Info tab.

Enter the Site Description.

Open the Ground Cover dropdown menu.

Click the appropriate cover type

Enter any Site Obstructions.

Click Submit to complete the deployment.
