Before using Google Takeout, we recommend cleaning up your Google Drive by removing files and videos that you don't want to keep. This will help speed up the Takeout process and may prevent the need to purchase additional storage for your personal account.
1. Export your files using Google Takeout
2
Log into your OPUSD Google account and in a new browser window navigate to <https://takeout.google.com/?pli=1>
3
On the Google Takeout page, click "Deselect all" and select only the items you want to transfer. We recommend only your Drive files.
4
Consider choosing your Google Classroom information:
5
And files in your Google Drive
6
After selecting the items you want to transfer, scroll to the bottom and click "Next step"
7
Choose the Destination from the drop down menu. We recommend choosing "Add to Drive" or "Send download link via email"
8
Click the "Export once" field.
9
Choose .zip for file type
10
Select the largest number for the filesize. If your data is over that filesize setting, you will receive the export in several files.
11
Click "Create export"
Google will begin to compress your files into a .zip file. Depending on the number of items you have, this process can take from several minutes to several hours. You should receive an email notification in your school email when the process is complete.
12
You will receive an email notification that an archive of Google data was requested.
13
Open the email and click "Check activity"
14
Click "Yes, it was me"
2. Share or Download to your Personal account
15
Once the process is complete, you will receive an email that your data has been exported.
16
Open the email and click "View in Drive" if you chose to have a file copied to your Google Drive. If you chose a link to download the .zip file, you should see that option instead.
17
Google will open the file in a new window where you can choose to download it to your personal computer's download's folder.
18
If you chose to have the file saved to your google Drive, you should click on the Share button to share to your personal Google account. The export was saved to your school Google Drive, which you will lose access to after the summer.
19
Enter your personal Gmail in the address field. Make sure you give yourself "Editor" rights and the "Notify people" is checked so you will get an email reminder with the direct link. Click on Send
**Very Important Note**: \ In order to transfer the .zip file from your OPUSD account to your personal account, you should click the link sent to your personal Gmail to open the file in Google, then make a copy of the file to your personal drive, or download the file to your personal computer. Once your OPUSD account is closed, you will not have access to the original file anymore.
