These examples are meant to be a reference for what your learning links might look like when you use entry numbers or GIDs for pedigree connections in DeltaBreed. They do not include all of the steps. For complete steps for how to use entry numbers or GIDs for pedigree connections, visit the [Germplasm v1.0 main page.](https://scribehow.com/page/External_Germplasm_v10__rNQNSyOSTXeYuoyRizhLYA)

Learning Link Example #1: Use entry numbers for pedigree connections.

      1
Create a new germplasm list using biparental cross from two cultivares and then single seed descent for eight generations. Assign each germplasm an entry number to add pedigree connections. Upload to DeltaBreed in the germplasm import screen.

      2
In the germplasm screen, view the germplasm that you uploaded. Notice that the pedigree connections have been made using the entry numbers in the initial upload of this germplasm data. DeltaBreed has also assigned the germplasm GIDs. Double check your own upload to make sure it has uploaded with the pedigree connections you meant to make.

Learning Link Example #2: Use GIDs for pedigree connections

      3
After you have downloaded the germplasm template from DeltaBreed, enter your germplasm starting with a biparental cross and then add single seed decent for 8 generations.\ Remember that you need name, breeding method, and source, but **do not** include entry numbers in this document as we want to practice making connections using the GIDs rather than entry numbers.

Save your file and then import it into DeltaBreed in the germplasm import screen.

      5
Once successfully imported, find the list that you just created in the germplasm screen and download it.

Notice that the GIDs are now assigned, as well as entry numbers.

Add the pedigree connections, making sure to reference the GIDs of the parent germplasm, then save and upload back into DeltaBreed.
