How Do I: Record Candidate Campaign Expenses

Candidate Campaign expenses are the expenses for reasonable travel, accommodations and meals for the Candidate only, within the constituency, during the election period. It is important to record Candidate Campaign Expenses in the appropriate category as they are treated differently when calculating total expenses relative to the campaign expense limit. Be sure not to include expenses for any individuals other than the candidate in this category.

Elections

Navigate to [https://elms.elections.sk.ca/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2F](https://elms.elections.sk.ca/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2F)

Click "Election Return"

Click "Expenses"

Click "Campaign Expenses"

Click "New Travel Expense" to record reimbursement for mileage, car rental, etc

Select the appropriate expense type from the drop down menu

Enter the km's travelled (if applicable)

Enter in the rate mileage was reimbursed at

Tip! Amounts paid at rates greater than those in effect for employees of the Government of Saskatchewan are not eligible for reimbursement

Enter the total amount paid

Enter a refernce in the "Cheque#" field

Enter a description of the expense in the "Description" field

Select the appropriate vendor from the drop down list or add a new vendor

Click "Save"

To add an expense for hotel accommodations click "Accommodations"

Click "New Accommodation Expense"

Enter all pertinent information

Select the appropriate type of accommodation from the drop down list

Select the appropriate vendor or add a new vendor

Click "Save"

To record an expense for meals or per diems click "Living Allowance"

Click "New Living Allowance Expense"

Enter pertinent information for the expense

Select "Meals" from the drop down list for either a per diem amount paid or reimbursement for meal purchased. Again, note, that candidate campaign expenses are only those incurred for the candidate, therefore if a meal expense includes amounts for other individuals, that portion should be recorded on the election expense tab.

Enter an appropriate description

Select the appropriate vendor or create a new vendor

Click "Save"
