How To Create Grade Categories for Weighted Totals in Brightspace

Categories listed under Assignments are for organizational purposes only. You must use categories under Grades for creating weighted grades.

Navigate to your course.

Click "Progress".

Click "Grades".

Click "Manage Grades".

Click New.

Click "Category".

Name the category. It is suggested that you use names that line up with the categories listed in you syllabus.

Referring to your syllabus, give the category the appropriate weight.

When you click on the question mark to the right of the weight total you are provided with this information.

Click "OK" to clear the box from the page.

Under Distribution, determine how you want the grades distributed.

If you want to change what your students see, click on Override to make the content available.

Click on what you want your students to see.

Click "Save and Close".
