How to Add Drop Down List in Google Sheets

      1
Sign in to your Google account and open a spreadsheet.
      2
You can select the cell or cells where you'd like to add a dropdown menu. In the example below, I want to add a dropdown list beside each name to include their location. Right-click on the cell or cells. If you select only one cell, you can add more cells afterwards.
      3
Scroll down this menu and click on the “Dropdown” option.
      4
You can add the options you wish in the “Data validation” panel. Click the Value text fields and add your options.
      5
You can assign a color to each option by clicking on the icon white circle on the left.
      6
Select the color you would like to use for each option. You can see a preview with the color assigned to the option.
      7
You can add as many options and colors as you need.
      8
Add as many options as you need by clicking “Add another item”. You will have to click this button for every new option you add.
      9
Click "Allow multiple selections" if you need to be able to use more than one option in the same cell.
      10
Click "Done" to apply the rule.
      11
As of now, only one cell has the dropdown list. Follow the next steps to add more cells.
      12
To include more cells with the dropdown list, go to the “Data validation rules” panel and click here.
      13
Click here to add a new range of cells.
      14
You can also simply add the cell values as shown here. Because I wanted to include all the cells from B2 to B8, I added [[:B8]] in the data range text field.
      15
      Click "Done"
      16
Now, all the cells from B2 to B8 have the dropdown list with the locations.
      17
Click the dropdown list and start selecting the options.
      18
If you need to include more than one option in the same cell, simply click again on the cell and add the options you wish to add.
      19
This is how your cells look like when you select more than one option for the same cell.
