Open a new presentation in Google Slides
Click on the “Slide” option in the top menu bar
From the dropdown menu, select “Edit Theme” (previously called "Master" or "Slide Master") This will open the Theme Builder interface where you can create and customize your theme
**Important!** ### **Understand the Theme Builder Layout** 1. **Main slide layout**: The top slide in the Theme Builder is the **Master Slide**. Changes made here will apply to all slides in your presentation unless overridden by specific slide layouts 2. **Individual slide layouts**: Below the Master Slide, you’ll see a list of **slide layouts** (e.g., title slide, content slide, section header). These can be customized individually to fit specific design needs
Click the main slide to make the edits
Select the placeholder text boxes on the Master Slide
Use the **toolbar** to customize the font type, size, color, and alignment These changes will apply to all slides based on the Master Slide
Click on every title, subtitle, or body text to customize
To change the background color, select “Background” from the toolbar above the slide preview
Choose a solid color, gradient, or image as your background. If using an image, you can upload one from your computer, Google Drive, or search the web
Click "Done" to save the preferred changes
Click "Rename" to give it a descriptive name. This helps when applying layouts to slides later
Once you've added your theme a new name, click "OK" to save the changes
When all customizations are complete, click the “X” in the upper-right corner of the Theme Builder to return to the main slide editing view
