You can use your voice to type and edit your document in Google Docs and your speaker notes and captions in Google Slides. This feature works with the latest Chrome, Edge, and Safari versions. When you turn on voice typing or captions, your web browser controls the speech-to-text service. It determines how your speech is processed and sends the text to Google Docs or Google Slides.

Step 1: Turn On Your Microphone

    1
To use voice typing or voice commands, your computer microphone needs to be on and working. Devices and microphones vary, so check your computer manual for instructions. Typically, microphone settings are in the [System Settings](https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22070) on a Mac, or the [Control Panel](https://support.microsoft.com/help/13764/) on a PC.

Step 2: Start Voice Typing in a Document

    2
Open a document in Google Docs in a supported browser.
    3
    Click "Tools"
    4
    Click “Voice typing”
    5
A microphone box appears. When you're ready to speak, click the microphone to start dictation.
    6
Speak clearly and at a normal volume and pace. The words will appear as you speak.
    7
When you're done, click the microphone again.

    Correct Mistakes While Voice Typing

    8
If you make an error while voice typing, you can fix it by placing the cursor on the mistake without turning off the microphone.
    9
Once the error is corrected, you can move the cursor back to your desired position to keep typing.

Some words may have suggestions; right-click on gray-underlined text to view alternative options.

    Step 3: Use Voice Commands

    11
After you start voice typing, you can use commands to edit and format your document. For example, "Select paragraph," "italics," or "Go to the end of the line."
