      1
On the Asset panel, right-click on the Asset needing the additional phase instance.
      2
On the pop-up menu, select Data.
      3
Select Phase on the menu extension.
      4
The Add/Remove Phase Instance dialogue appears. Select the Phase Type to to be added. This example is selecting oil.
      5
Lower in the dialogue is the text box for the Phase Name which is also known as the instance name. On the right side of the dialogue you can see the defined phase#instances. These are magenta because they have been inherited from the Study hierarchy.
      6
Type oil2 (for this example) in the text box. The instance name is not limited to any character string. R3 predefines phase instances using simplified naming to indicated that multiple instances of a phase can be created.
      7
      Select the Add button.
      8
Observe the Inheritable By Children? check box below the Phase Name. Do you want this new phase#instance to be inherited by this Asset's children if there are any? Notice that the Defined Phases have changed from magenta to black text. This indicates that the phase#instances are local to this asset and inheritable by its children.
      9
If the Inheritable By Children? text box is unchecked, the Defined Phase become bold text which indicates that these are not inheritable to the descendants of this Asset.
      10
Having made your decision regarding inheritable or not by using the checkbox, select the Close button to exit the dialogue to finish the addition of the phase#instance.
