The protocol assumes you have obtained or created a properly formatted trait (.trt) file. Please reach out to the OnRamp team if you need assistance with trait files.
      1
Open the Fieldbook app on your mobile device or tablet.

Importing a Trait File into Fieldbook

      2
      Tap on the "Traits" icon.
      3
To import a trait file, tap on the "Import" icon as shown below.
      4
      Tap on the "Import" icon.
      5
In this example, we are importing from a Cloud storage location (Google Drive). Tap on "Cloud storage."
      6
This directory contains the file we wish to upload called "DemoTraitFile.trt." Tap this file to import.
      7
The traits in that file will automatically populate as shown below and will all be selected for use in phenotyping.

Creating a New Trait Directly in Fieldbook

      8
To create a new trait directly in Fieldbook, tap the [[+]] icon in the bottom-right corner of the traits page.
      9
The trait layout menu will populate. Select the trait type you wish to add. For this example, we will add a text trait called "Notes"
      10
The add new trait window will pop-up. Enter the trait name and tap "Save". You can also add additional information such as a default value (a value that will auto-populate when collecting data) and/or a description of the trait.
      11
You should see the new trait "Notes" in the trait list.

      Activating/Deactivating Traits for Data Collection

      12
To deactivate a trait (exclude it from the collection screen), tap the check box next to the trait name.
      13
To select a trait that has been excluded, tap the check box again.
      14
Navigate back to the main page. If you have already uploaded a Field layout file or created a new Field, you are now ready to collect data.
