**What is Docker?**

**Docker** is a **containerization platform** that allows developers to package applications and their dependencies into lightweight, portable containers. These containers run consistently across different environments, making deployment easier and more efficient. Docker helps in creating, managing, and scaling applications quickly while ensuring they work the same on any system. It is widely used in DevOps and cloud computing.

Click the "**Apple Silicon**" button if your device has an Apple Silicon chip, or click the "**Intel Chip**" button if it has an Intel processor.

**What's the difference between the docker for the Apple silicon chip and the Intel chip?**

The main difference between **Docker for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3)** and **Intel Macs** is the architecture. Apple Silicon uses **ARM64**, while Intel Macs use **x86_64**. ARM-based containers run natively on Apple Silicon, but x86_64 containers require emulation, which can slow performance. Intel Macs run x86_64 containers without issue. For best performance on Apple Silicon, use **ARM64-compatible** images or enable **multi-platform builds** with `buildx`.

When the download wizard opens, select the **"Applications"** option from the left-hand tab, then click on the **Save** button

Once the download is complete, click on the **Downloads** icon in your browser, then click on the **folder** icon to view the downloaded application.

The **Applications** folder will open. Double-click on the **Docker.dmg** file to begin the installation.

The **Docker installation wizard** will open. Drag and drop the **Docker** logo into the **Applications** folder to complete the installation.

On the **desktop**, use the **search** function to find **Docker**, then click on the **Docker application** to open it.

**Docker Desktop** will open. Click on the **"Accept"** button to agree to the **terms and conditions**.

Click on the **"Finish"** button to complete the Docker setup using the **recommended settings**.

**Password** Wizard will open. Enter your Mac password to complete the Docker setup.

**Why does Docker Desktop require your password during installation?**

Docker Desktop asks for your **password** during installation because it needs **administrator privileges** to set up system files, configure networking, manage storage, and run the Docker engine. This ensures Docker can function properly on your Mac.

Open **Terminal**, type `docker --version`, and press **Enter** to check the installed Docker version.
