**What is Git?**

Git is widely used in software development, especially with platforms like **GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket**.

On the **Git** landing page, click on the **Downloads** option to proceed.

Click on the **Windows Download** option.

**Download for Windows** wizard will open, click on the **64-bit Git for Windows Setup** option under **Standalone Installer** section

**Note:** If your Windows support 32-bit you can click on the **32-bit Git for Windows Setup** option

**What is the difference between the Standalone Installer and the Portable ThumbDrive Edition in Git for Windows?**

The **Standalone Installer** is a full installation package that sets up Git on Windows, including necessary dependencies, environment variables, and integration with the system. It installs Git on your computer, making it accessible system-wide. In contrast, the **Portable ThumbDrive Edition** is a version of Git that does not require installation, it can be run directly from a USB drive or any folder without modifying system settings. This makes the portable version useful for users who need Git on multiple machines without installing it each time.

**Downloads** wizard will open, select the **Downloads** folder and click on the **Save** button

Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded Git executable file, follow the installation steps, and grant any required permissions when prompted.
