**What is Java?**

**Java** is a high-level, object-oriented programming language known for its **"Write Once, Run Anywhere" (WORA)** capability. It is widely used for building web applications, enterprise software, mobile apps (Android), backend systems, and more. Java runs on the **Java Virtual Machine (JVM)**, making it platform-independent. It features automatic memory management (garbage collection), strong security, and multithreading support, making it a popular choice for scalable and robust applications.

**Java download page** will open. Click on the **JDK 23** option or the latest available version to download the Java Development Kit (JDK).

Then, click on the **Windows** option to download the JDK for your Windows.

Click on the **x64 Installer** link to download the **JDK .exe** file for Windows.

**Downloads** wizard will open, select the **Downloads** folder and click on the **Save** button

**Note:** The recorded demo uses **jdk_23**, but the actual installed version may vary depending on the latest available release at the time of installation.

Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded JDK executable file, follow the installation steps, and grant any required permissions when prompted.

Open **Command Prompt** and type the command **[[java --version]]** to view the latest java version installed on your Windows

Type the command **[[jshell --version]]** to view the latest jshell version installed on your Windows

**What is JShell?**

**JShell** is an interactive **REPL (Read-Eval-Print Loop) tool** introduced in Java 9. It allows developers to quickly run and test Java code **without needing to compile a full program**. With JShell, you can enter Java statements, expressions, and methods interactively, making it useful for testing, debugging, and learning Java. It provides instant feedback, helping developers experiment with Java code more efficiently.
