Laboratory orders- Processing "Messages Lab" for patient blood draw - with venipuncture note or without

    This example will show working from the Lab messages for a Lab draw, but you can also work from the lab schedule. This will be shown in a separate How to document.

    From the Messages, click on the Date and time to open the Lab message.

    Prepare your tubes and supplies according to the tests that are shown to be drawn. Once you have drawn the samples, check the boxes on each test that you drew. If you are drawing all on the Requisition, you can choose the square with check to mark all.

    Enter your name or initials in the Lab Technician window, then click Send. Clicking Send will set the Collection date and time to the current time send was clicked. This process also sends these orders to the Orchard LIS system for the Laboratory to process and result these tests once the lab samples have been received.

    IF you are NOT required to add the Drawing fee, go to STEP 21 below. IF YOU ARE TO ADD DRAWING FEE follow steps 5 on. STEP if you are instructed to add billing code for the draw you just did. From the Order Requisition screen, click on New.

    Choose the "New Order/Immunization" note type from the list.

    The provider that created the order should default on this screen along with the Service Site. Just confirm all is correct, and click on OK.

    There are 2 different ways to pull in the DX for the patient. First is directly from the Patient DX list or Second, using the "Follow-up" slider and going to the progress note date in which the orders were created. This example shows the "Follow- up" slider. Click on the Follow up slider to open.

    Go to the appropriate note date in which the orders were placed and click on it.

    To see the DX that were used in that note, click on the DX box.

    All DX that were used in that note will be listed. Click on either the ->(arrow) at the to to pull in all dx listed, or you can click on each dx -> to pull in just individual DX.

    To close the slider, click the pushpin icon, then click the pushpin Icon again do not use the X this removes the slider Permanently.

    Next go to the SP tab

    Go to the Venipunctures pick list on the left for all venipuncture codes.

    Choose one of the applicable venipuncture codes from the list.

    Click on OK to finish your note.

    Note can be left in either "Incomplete Note" status if you need to add further information later, or if you are completely done with the note, choose the "Complete Note" radio button.

    Choose "No" on the next window to close note without adding an E&M code.

    Click on OK on the ePrescribing warning window to close. You will be returned to the Order Requisition screen in the next slide.
