Mastery Connect: Creating Assessments from Item Bank

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to create assessments using Mastery Connect's Item Bank. It explains how to align the assessment with subjects and core standards, filter and select questions from the Item Bank, preview and manipulate the questions, set cut scores, save the assessment, and attach it to a tracker. This guide is useful for educators who want to efficiently create assessments using a wide range of rigorous questions.

Go to the "Assessments" tab

Click here

Name your Assessment

You can manually select the Subject and Core or you can Align it with already made Trackers/Curriculum Maps

If you are putting in the core manually and not using the "Alignment Source" Skip to Step 7

Select what you want to Align it with

Click the Tracker or Curriculum map you want to align this assessment with.

The Source of the questions will come be an "Item"

Click the drop down menu

Change it to be "Private to My School" OR "Private to Me"

Click here

You will be taken to a new screen

Click the "+"

Select "Add from Item Bank"

Alert! You will be brought to the Item Banks Screen where you will have access to THOUSANDS OF QUESTIONS so we need to filter them.

Click here to filter

Click "Item Bank" dropdown

Select "Mastery Item Bank" This is the bank of rigorous questions purchased from Mastery Connect.

Select your standard(s) from this drop down.

You can sort as specifically as you want in these other categories.

It's recommended to sort by language as well so you don't get questions your students won't understand as an option.

Click the small "x" on the filter window to close it. Your filters will automatically save.

Click on the questions to see a preview of them on the right.

You can manipulate the question in the preview window.

Scroll down in that preview window to see the answer.

If you want to add that question to your assessment, you can do that in two different places.

You will see a green check if it's been selected.

Once you've selected all the questions you want, click the blue "Add Items" button on the bottom right of your screen.

Assessment Draft Overview

Steps 27-30 show you what you can see and do on this draft page now that you've selected your questions.

These boxes show you how many standards you are assessing, how many questions, and how many points the assessment is worth.

Click on the questions here to preview them and see the answers again.

You can rearrange questions by clicking and dragging the question on the left side of the box.

Setting Cut Scores

Click here to see or change the scoring of this assessment

These are the default levels. If you want to make changes, you can and then scroll down to save those changes. The top shows the overall mastery levels. Below that you can see the point values for each standard being assessed.

Saving and Attaching Assessment to Tracker

Click here to save your assessment. You can make edits to assessments later if needed.

When you save the assessment, it will bring you to a new screen where you can see the published assessment. From here, you can click "Add to Tracker"

A box will pop up and you can select all the active trackers you want to add this assessment to.

Click here

Then you will be taken to this screen where the assessment has been attached to your tracker under the assigned standards.

You are all done! Now you can assign the assessment when you are ready for your students to take it.
