This demonstration shows how to migrate a folders and files from Google Drive to shared.fordham using the Nextcloud client. 

The steps include:

- Install the Nextcloud client
- Download the folder and unzipping its contents
- Synchronize the files through Nextcloud into shared.fordham
- Finally, cleaning up everything once the transfer is complete

Open a browser and navigate to <https://nextcloud.com/install/#desktop-files>\
The site will automatically detect your operating system (e.g., Windows 10).

Download the installer.\
**You will need administrative access to the computer.**

Run the Nextcloud installation wizard.\
You may skip restarting your system if prompted, though restarting may improve reliability.

Once installed, open the Nextcloud client.\
You usually find it in the systray (lower/right on Windows and upper/right on Mac).

When prompted, click **Install Software**.

When prompted, click **Login.**

Enter the URL: <https://shared.fordham.edu> and click Login.

If you are not already logged in, you will be redirected to the CAS login page for authentication.\
Grant the desktop app access to your account and close the browser window.

Unselect everything you do NOT want copied down to your computer.\
Click Connect to finish setup.

Go to the folder in Google Drive that you want to migrate.\
Right-click on the folder and select Download.\
This action will create a .ZIP file containing all the folder's files and subfolders.\
Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides will automatically convert to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

*If the folder is larger than 2 GB, consider using Google Takeout for .zip files downloads.*

Google Drive will zip the folder and download it as a single file.

Wait for the download to complete.

**Ensure you have sufficient disk space (double the size of the data being migrated).**

Navigate to your local Downloads folder.\
Locate the downloaded zip file.

Right-click on the zip file and select **Extract All.** Double-click on Mac.

Choose the extraction location (default is a subfolder in the Downloads directory).

*When migrating data, you'll need at least twice the amount of free space on your local disk as the data you're moving. For example, if you're migrating 10 GB of data, you'll likely need around 20 GB of free space to complete the process.*

Once it's 100% complete, our unzipped files will have been successfully extracted from Google.

As you can see in our file explorer, we have a Nextcloud window open. The "Department.Test" folder is where we'll be uploading the files. You can place them in the root of your folder, but in this case, we're using a department share to simulate moving the files into a shared location.
