Navigate to <https://portal.torcherbaria.org/portal/index.php> and log-in to your account. Create an account first if needed.
Click the "Crowdsourcing" button on the home page.
Click the 'Open Records" for the University of Louisiana at Monroe Herbarium, R. Dale Thomas Collection (BRIT:NLU) collection. This should be the second row.
Click on any 'Symbiota ID' to open a specimen record to edit. You can choose to start on any record, but it's simplest to open the first record.
Zoom in to the label on the specimen sheet. This is typically on the lower right side. There are two ways to do this: 1. Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard, click anywhere on the image until you see the crosshairs, +, and roll your mouse forward to zoom in. 2. Press and hold the Ctrl key, and click multiple times on the image in the place you'd like to zoom in.
If the image is blurry, select the 'High Res.' button.
Locate the accession number on the sheet associated with NLU (or University of Louisiana at Monroe). They are on most sheets, but some may not have one.
Enter this number into the 'Additional Identifier Value' field (second from the top).
Continue to parse out the data from the label as you work your way down the fields on the page. Enter in the collector name, the collector's number, and the date of collection. If any of this data is absent from the label, see further instructions and FAQs at the end!
Confirm the Scientific Name and Country listed correctly matches what you see on the label. If the Scientific Name needs to be modified, please let us know (more later).
Enter in the remaining data - this will include the locality information, potentially coordinates and elevations, habitat, description, and other notes. Not every label will contain all this information - it's okay if there are empty fields.
Once you've finished transcribing, scroll to the bottom of the page to the 'Status Auto-Set' field. This should be set to "pending review". Once you set it on your first transcription, it will stay for the remainder of your transcription session. Click 'Save Edits'!
If there were any issues in transcribing this specimen, set the Status to 'expert required' instead, and write any notes in the 'Notes (Occurrence Remarks)' field for staff to review.
You'll see a notification "SUCCESS..."; meaning the record is complete, and will be removed from the queue. Click the ">>" button to move on to the next record in the queue.
