    Hands On Practice

As a reminder, here is the scenario: You have an export file containing bank rules you’ve generated for another client that you want to import into the QuickBooks Online subscription of your client, Craig’s Landscaping. What do you need to do? Download the [Rules file](https://intuitproadvisorstorage.blob.core.windows.net/$web/filestore/documents/Bank_rules_file_22.xlsx) and, based on what you’ve learned in this lesson, import all the rules into Craig’s QuickBooks Online company file.

For some reason, the file Intuit provides (\*.xlsx) is not in the correct format for importing and needs to be adjusted. After downloading the [file](https://intuitproadvisorstorage.blob.core.windows.net/$web/filestore/documents/Bank_rules_file_22.xlsx), you will need to find it on your computer (likely in your Downloads folder), open it, enable editing, then save as in the "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (\*xls)" format. This newly saved file is the one you will import later in the exercise.

Now let's get started with the exercise.
    2
From the left navigation bar, hover over Transactions, then select "Rules".
    3
Click "Go to rules". *This informational page will only show if this is your first time in the Rules tab.*
    4
Click the "down arrow" next to New rule, then select "Import rules".
    5
Click "Select the file to upload".

Find and click on the .xls file you just saved, then click open. You will know the correct file has been selected and ready to be imported because the lettering on the file name will be green.
    6
    Click "Next".

On the next screen, notice that the Hall Properties Rent and Car fields are empty. This is because the names from the imported file were slightly different than what is in Craig's account, and QBO is not able to automatically match them. You will need to match these to similar ones in Craig's account.
    8
In the Hall Properties Rent field, select "Hall Properties".
    9
In the Car field, select "Automobile".
