**First: navigate to the course in Canvas where you want to create an assignment.** **Click "Assignments"**
    Add a new Assignment
    Name the assignment
**Click the "Tekst entry" OR "File Uploads" field.** Turnitin is only available for the Submission type: Text entry and File Uploads
**Choose Submission Attempts** Unlimited: the student is able to hand in the assignment several times. Every attempt will be checked against plagiarism. However, as soon as there is a new attempt from the student. The previous attempt will not be taken into account in the similarity report. Limited: the student is only able to hand in the assignment once.
**Click the Plagiarism Review dropdown and choose Turnitin**
**Choose whether you want to exclude the Bibliography and Quotes from the Similarity Reports.** Bibliography and Quotes are not excluded from the Similarity Reports by default. Why? Because Turnitin is able to detect false references and show red flags, such as quotation marks that are used to bypass the plagiarism check. Later in the process, you are always able to exclude the Bibliography and Quotes from the Similarity report in the Speedgrader per student.
**Choose whether you want to index the submission to the Turnitin Database via Submission Indexing** When you check the box "Submission Indexing", student assignments will be added to the general Turnitin Database. This will allow for Turnitin to grow their database, so that more plagiarism can be detected. For example: if a paper is indexed, Turnitin will detect papers that are handed in multiple times by students among various courses.
**Now you can decide when you want to generate the Similarity Reports.** You can choose between: Immediately and on due date OR Immediately. It is recommended to generate the Similarity Report immediately and on due date. This allows for a collusion check within your course.
**Choose whether you want to show the report to students.** The default setting is Never.
**But you also have other options: Immediately, After the assignment is graded or after the due date.**
**Give the assignment a Due Date**
**Click "Save & publish". The assignment is now available for students to hand in their paper.**
**Do you want to check a paper on plagiarism without a Canvas assignment?** In the following scribe you will learn how: How to Submit an Assignment on Turnitin without a Canvas Assignment
