Part 1: Before The Room Selection Process
1
Through eRezLife, residents with applications completed in a timely manner will have the opportunity to participate in the room selection process! The room selection process has a variety of moving parts, so we'll do our best to explain them here.
2
After the initial deadline for the application has passed, Residence Life will run what is called the "room lottery process". This is what assigns residents their timeslots for when they will be able to pick their rooms. Once the lottery is ran, residents will be able to preview rooms. To preview rooms, click on "Housing overview".
3
In "Housing overview", this will show you when you are slotted to select your room. Before you select your room, you have the option to preview rooms and mark them as favorites to speed up the room selection process. To do so, click on Preview Room/Bedrooms.
4
Once in the session, you'll have a new tab appear that says "Find your room". This will allow you to search for rooms and to potentially build a "favorites" list to choose from once your selection time arrives. You will need to filter it down by each building and floor/wing; once you do so, click Search.
5
This will show all the rooms that you are eligible to select. The bed icon in each room shows the number of beds that the space holds. If you want to favorite a space, hit the star icon to the right of the room.
6
You also have the option to show beds that you are not eligible for by checking the box for "Include Beds I am not eligible for". These typically are going to be beds that are reserved or set aside for specific purposes and will appear as crossed out. You have the option to see why you cannot reserve the bed - to do so, click on the bed.
7
For this bed in Homestead 101 as an example, a student would need to have an accommodation set on their profile to be qualified to select this bed.
8
After you favorite several rooms, you can filter it down to only show your favorites. Once the room selection process begins, this will be helpful to see what spaces are still available.
Most likely, there will be other residents selecting rooms at the same time as you and even before you, so it's important to make sure that you are going in at the earliest time possible to select your room!
Part 2: Selecting Your Room
9
Once it's time to select your room, you'll have the below option appear in your Recommended Actions, so click on this to select a room.
10
Depending on if you favorited any rooms, these rooms will appear immediately for you. In this example, all the rooms favorited are still available, so we'll select Homestead 103.
11
Room assignments are made on the bed-level, which means that you are selecting to reserve one bed within the space. In this example, we would be selecting to be assigned to Homestead 103, Bedroom E. Click "Choose this Bed" to go to the next step.
12
If you have a roommate group, you'll now have the option to move the roommate group in with you, or to place yourself instead. Initially, it will place your roommate group within the same suite as you - in one of the next steps, you will have the option to rearrange the beds.
13
Once you are ready to be assigned, click "Assign me now". Alternatively, you can also select "Look at other rooms". Keep in mind that room selections are purely first-come, first-served, so there is a high likelihood that your favorited rooms could be filled quickly depending on when your selection time is.
14
Once you do assign yourself to a room, you will be brought to this screen showing you your room assignment and roommates. This means that your room is now reserved!
15
You now have the option, if desired, to rearrange the beds of your roommate group. You can do this by clicking Rearrange Beds.
16
Once you rearrange the beds to your roommate group's liking, click Assign Beds.
17
You'll also have the option to select which meal plan you would like based on your campus. By default, all residents will have the 14-Meal Plan for their campus. For campuses that have the 19-Meal Plan, residents will be able to upgrade.
As a reminder, meal plans are required for all residents living on campus. If you have questions regarding meal plans, please feel free to contact Residence Life.
18
While your bed is assigned now, you still have the option to look at other beds. This can be a good option for students who may not have gotten their number one option and want to keep an eye out in case any spots open. To continue looking at other rooms, click "Keep reservation, but browse other rooms". Do note that there is a deadline date for when room placements will be considered final (represented by the red circle). While the date listed is just an example date for this demo, the official deadline date will typically be in correlation to the deadline date for cancelling your housing contract for the upcoming semester. In the event that a resident either misses the room selection process or submits their application after the process has already ended, Residence Life will automatically assign late applicants to available spaces based on their preferences.
That is it for our training guides! Hopefully these will help make your process of applying to Housing at SCC a simple and enjoyable one! At any point, if you have questions then please reach out to ResLife@southeast.edu!
