      information ordinal icon
**Note**: While this guide is specific to the main navigation, the footer navigation (bottom of site) or the utility navigation (upper-right corner of site) can be updated in a similar manner at **Structure > Menus**.
      1
Navigate to **Structure** > **Menus** > **Main Navigation**
      2
      Choose to "**Add link**"
      3
Use the "**Menu link title**" field to enter a name for your link. *This is the text that will appear in your navigation.*
      4
Use the "**Link**" field to add the link to the URL you want to use. - **If you are linking to a page on your website,** you can start typing the name of the page and the system will populate a list of available pages that match your query. - You can also add a relative URL here if you're linking to a page on your website. (A relative URL contains only the path, i.e., everything after the "...edu"). - **If you are linking to a URL on a different website,** you must use the absolute URL. (An absolute URL is the full URL, including protocol ( http / https ), the optional subdomain (e.g. [[commencement.]] ), domain ( [rutgers.edu](http://example.com) ), and path (which includes the directory and slug ([[/events]]). Absolute URLs provide all the available information to find the location of a page.)
      5
After adding your link, ensure it is **Enabled** If you need this link to have "children" links that live beneath it, check the "**Show As Expanded**" box
      6
Identify the Menu placement of your new link using the Parent link selector. Leaving it as "<Main Navigation> will have the new link appear as a standalone item in the main site nave. Most of the time, you'll want to add links to already established menu categories. You can use this menu to locate and select the menu category where you want your link to appear.
      7
      **Save** your work.
      8
Locate your new menu link item. **If you need to reposition it, you can drag and drop it to the correct place using this interface**. Note the option to nest the link. You can also elect to disable links you do not want to appear in the menu from this screen.
      9
**Click Save** on this screen to see your changes appear in your site menu.
      10
Verify your change and edit using the steps above if needed.
