Read and Annotate PDFs in Zotero
This guide explains how to read PDFs in Zotero and highlights the process of annotating and exporting notes. Open the PDF you want to read

Preview the Zotero PDF Reader interface: Annotations are kept in the left-hand column, and the PDF is in the center of the screen.

Select the text you want to highlight

Select the color to highlight with

In the left-hand column, select the highlight you just made

Click "Add comment" and enter your personal reminder or observation

Click outside the Annotation column to see all your highlights with comments

Return to the Zotero library

Right click the title of the PDF you were reading

Click "Add Note from Annotations"

Right click the newly-created "Annotations"

Click "Export Note…"

Click "Format:"

Click "Markdown"

Un-check the box to "Include Zotero Links"

Click "OK"

Rename the Annotations and save them somewhere easy to find

Click "Save"
