Open the course to be restored and click "More".
In the "More" dropdown, select "Course reuse".
In the top left dropdown, select the "Restore" option.
On the Restore course page, use either the import from a backup file or course backup area to select a file to restore. Backed-up files can be downloaded onto the personal device for storage and used via the Import a backup file section.
On the review page, ensure the correct content is being restored. Click "Continue".
Use one of the options within the page to select where to restore the content into. The "Restore into this course" section is commonly used to restore content back to the course. Be careful when choosing between merging the backup and deleting. Merge will add the content to the course. Delete will replace the course with the backed up content and should not be used unless required.
Select the types of content to be copied and click next. This is an important page, when merging it is recommended to untick everything and only select the content types that are required (i.e., Activities and resources). Ensure "Include enrolled users" is ticked to allow student submissions to be restored. The "Question bank" option should only be imported once per destination course, to prevent duplication of questions.
In the course settings, tick and untick the checkboxes to select the activity and resource content that will be restored. Click "Next" when ready. The "User data" column determines which content you want student submissions, grades, and posts to be restored.
On the Confirmation and review page, check that the correct check boxes are selected. If they are not, return to the previous pages and correct your selections.
Click "Perform Restore" once the options are confirmed. It is important to take care when reviewing selected content as incorrectly restored content can take substantial time to clean up.
A loading bar will open with the restore progress. The restore can take substantial time if there is a lot of content. This page can be closed, an email will be sent to your inbox once the restore is completed. If there are "Orphaned sections", add new sections to the course.
