Set Notification Standards for Struggling Students

This guide shows how to set automated notification thresholds in Blackboard so instructors can quickly alert students who are at risk (low grades, missed deadlines, or inactivity). Following it helps you proactively support struggling students, reduce last-minute issues, and maintain consistent engagement without manual monitoring.

Click "Gradebook"

Click the "cog" icon.

Add a grade standard that students where students should be notified

Type "70" or whatever percent grade you think warrants notification

Add a number of missed due dates standard that students where students should be notified

Type "1", or whatever number of missed due dates you would accept without concern

Click the "Days since last access above or equal" field.

Type "4" or whatever standard of regular logins you would accept
