    Introduction

The Software Engineering pre-work takes place on a platform called Scrimba, which is the official Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) partner for delivering the MDN Curriculum. While you may not yet be familiar with MDN, it will become a central hub of learning during your time as a software engineer. Scrimba offers interactive lessons, which they call "scrims," that combine instructor-led lectures with interactive coding challenges on a convenient web-based platform. You are required to complete two courses: "Learn HTML and CSS," and "Learn JavaScript." It should take **approximately 20 hours** to complete these two courses. These two courses will give you a wide variety of foundational skills and conceptual knowledge that will be essential for your success in the Software Engineering course; however, they are not meant to teach you everything! These are fast-paced, hands-on lessons, and can feel overwhelming at times. Take your time and make steady progress. We will revisit many of these concepts in more detail during the course! Follow the instructions below to get started!

    Notes on Pre-Work Course Content

As you continue through the course, you will be challenged with small coding exercises to introduce you to the world of software engineering. You are required to complete the entirety of the [**Learn HTML and CSS**](https://v2.scrimba.com/learn-html-and-css-c0p) course, as well as the [**Learn JavaScript**](https://v2.scrimba.com/learn-javascript-c0v) course, which can be found using the same methods as above, but are linked here for convenience. As you complete sections, your progress will be shown as both a percentage of the lessons you have viewed (seen as 19% in the screenshot above) and the number of coding challenges you have completed (seen as 2/12 in the screenshot above). You must complete all of the **free** lessons and activities in order for your pre-work to be considered complete. The instructions below highlight what your Pre-Work submission should look like when complete.

**NOTE:** In the "Learn HTML and CSS" course, there are several sections (Scrims) that are marked as **(PRO)**, these cost money and **paid content is not required for you to complete.** If, at any time and for any reason, you encounter content that requires you to upgrade to the paid version, **you ARE NOT REQUIRED to complete that paid Scrim**. You may choose to do so for your own benefit, but it is NOT a requirement of the Software Engineering course pre-work.
