Step-by-step guide to accessing and updating Engagement/Attendance in Moodle.

This guide provides a visual step-by-step for entering Engagement/Attendance information in Moodle. This is a guide for all CU faculty to complete required, weekly reporting of student engagement.

Navigate to your Course in Moodle.

In the "Syllabus & Course Materials" section (or otherwise toward the top of your Moodle Course shell), you will find the Session or Semester Engagement module. For 8 week courses, the module is named "*term* (*year*) Session Engagement". For 16 week courses, the module is named "Semester Engagement".

From the Engagement module, you can access some information about selecting Engagement statuses for students. A link to a matrix for Engagement in different courses is provided at the top. The list of dates toward the bottom is for each week's engagement in the term.

Select the Blue Arrow for the week that you are entering Engagement for.

For each student in your course, select the appropriate status using the radio buttons.

For each student, enter short comments that explain your engagement selections, if applicable. Providing more explanation for "Not Engaged" or "Unexcused" absences help lab faculty identify where a student might need more support.

Once you are finished entering all information, select "Save and show next page".

If you need to change or edit any information on attendance before that week's due date for engagement, you can do so by clicking on the green arrow.

This returns you to that week's Engagement data, which you can update.

Consistently entering timely engagement information for each of your students with concise and descriptive Remarks helps admin and Lab Faculty identify patterns in engagement to better scaffold student supports. Each week, administrative staff sift through Engagement data reports and update Lab Faculty with the information provided. Lab Faculty use this information to inform their 1-1 meetings with students where they work to strengthen goal-setting, time-management skills, clarify expectations, and connect students with further supports.
