Use Google Meet with Translated Captions

Translated captions are ONLY available to Google Education Plus and Teaching & Learning Upgrade.

Create a meeting. If using for students, the easiest easy is to use the Google Classroom Meet Link available. If using for parents, you can email them a link or set up an event through Calendar. I used Google Calendar for this example. The host/teacher begins the meet.

The host/teacher should turn on the captions by clicking the CC button.

To turn on translated captions, choose the three dots.

Click "Settings".

Click "Captions"

Click here to toggle on translated captions.

Click here to choose the language.

Click "Spanish"

Click here to close out settings.

If using in a classroom, the student will join the Google Meet in COMPANION MODE.

How to join in Companion Mode (you may have to click a drop down "other ways to join".

As the host/teacher speaks, the captions will be translated on their screen.

Follow steps #3-9 to turn on translated captions for the student as well.
