    The [**Data Access**](https://eliteportal.synapse.org/Data%20Access) page gives general guidelines for who can view content on the ELITE Portal and how to download data.

    Study-specific Access Requirements

    Access requirements can vary by study. Visit [**Explore > Studies**](https://eliteportal.synapse.org/Explore/Studies) to view the specific requirements for your study of interest.

    Click on a study title to view a detailed page about that study.

    Click the "Study Data" tab.

    In the “Access Requirements” section, you’ll find a summary of the steps needed to request access to this study’s data.

    How to Submit an Access Request

    **Explore > Studies** To begin your data access request, scroll down to the data tables and click the **gold key icon.** The **gold key icon** indicates that additional steps are required before you can access and download the data file.

    (These icons also appear on **Explore > Data** tables and function the same way)

    Clicking the **gold key icon** opens a "Data Access Request" dialog box outlining the steps required to request access to the file. Follow the prompts to complete the necessary actions.

    After completing all required steps, you’ll see the following visual changes: The **gold key icon** will change to a **green unlock icon**. A **download icon** will appear to the left of the unlock icon, allowing you to download the file directly.

    Clicking the **green unlock icon** will reopen the “Data Access Request” dialog box, showing that all steps have been completed. You can also update your request from this dialog box if needed.
