Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen and tap the Screen Mirroring icon.

You may see multiple options here. Tap the option that matches your Apple TV. Your iPad screen will now be mirrored onto. your Apple TV.
Disconnect from Apple TV

Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen and tap the Screen Mirroring icon.

Tap "Stop Mirroring."
