As a non-exempt employee, take these actions to ensure you record your work hours accurately in API Time and Attendance:
- Record your "in clocking" when you begin your shift and your "out-clocking" when you end your shift. API Time and Attendance automatically pairs clockings that happen with 24-hours.
- Duke pays employees in "tenths" of an hour or based on six minute increments. Duke's [**Chart to Convert Minutes to Tenths of An Hour**](https://finance.duke.edu/payroll/reference/tenths/) provides guidance on how API rounds time.
- Employees may need to record a special code to categorize hours for specific premiums or to remove the standard 30 minutes lunch in the event they work through lunch. Visit the API Time and Attendance - Entering a Special Code quick reference guide for specific instructions.
- If clinical staff float hours, they will need a record an in and out clocking when the transition between units. In addition to entering any special codes as applicable, these in and out clockings must include the **Facility** (53 for Lake Norman Regional) and **API Department.** Visit the API Time and Attendance - Floating Time quick reference guide for specific instructions.
