Adding Premium Incentives and Surcharges

Under **Insurance > Medical**, click **"Premium Incentives and Surcharges"**

If you don't see "Premium Incentive or Surcharge 1" or want to add another, click **"add new"**

If you set this toggle to **"is not"** a surcharge, ALEX will subtract the annual incentive to the configured premiums

If you set this toggle to **"is"** a surcharge, ALEX will add the annual surcharge amount to the configured premiums

If you click this dropdown, you can choose an audio track from the most common ones we see (wellness program, tobacco surcharge, spousal surcharge). Set this toggle to the one that fits best. If none of these audios fit, choose **"no additional"**

Next, you can decide how ALEX will ask employees whether or not the premium incentive or surcharge will apply. ALEX will ask employees if the premium incentive or surcharge applies before walking them through their medical options, so he can factor it into what he shows. \ \ This question defaults to "Will you do this program?" but this can be changed to something that makes more sense such as "Does this incentive or surcharge apply to you?"

If the premium incentive or surcharge is a flat amount, set this toggle to **"cannot"** fluctuate.

If there are multiple levels of the program that an employee can reach that changes the incentive amount, set this toggle to **"can"** fluctuate. \ \ **Example:** A wellness program where employees can take multiple different actions to increase their incentive amount.

If you set the previous toggle to **"can"** fluctuate, you'll want to make the annual amount the highest amount an employee can earn for the year. ALEX will cap how much an employee says they'll earn at that amount. Otherwise, set the annual amount to the flat-rate incentive or surcharge amount.

If you set this toggle to **"cannot"** earn...separately from the employee, ALEX can show options for just the employee participating, just the spouse participating, both participating, or neither participation. This toggle is most commonly used for wellness programs or tobacco cessation/surcharge programs.

If you're configuring a spousal surcharge, toggle this to **"should."** This will make ALEX hide the surcharge for anyone who doesn't have a spouse

Enter the annual surcharge/incentive amount. You can use the tier type drop-down to change the tier setup or choose a flat amount if the amount doesn't change based on who you cover.

All done with setup! Now make sure to attach the surcharge or incentive in the **Premiums** tab. To find this, click **"Medical Plans"**

Click **"Premiums"**

Click **"are not"** to change toggle to **"are"**

Click "Select Items..."

Click "Premium Incentive or Surcharge 1" or the name of the premium you just configured - all done!
