Aligning Key Assessments to Outcomes in Canvas

Navigate to your Canvas course at https:/mohave.instructure.com

Click "Outcomes" in the left hand navigation

***(Skip this step if you see Outcomes in the Navigation.)*** If you do not see Outcomes in your left hand navigation you will need to click on "Settings" at the bottom of the navigation.

***(Skip this step if you see Outcomes in the Navigation.)*** Then click on the "Navigation" tab.

***(Skip this step if you see Outcomes in the Navigation.)*** Then move Outcomes up from the bottom list to the top list. This can be done by dragging and dropping it or by clicking on the 3 dots to the side and clicking enable. Once it is moved click on "Save" at the very bottom of the list.

Click "Course Learning Outcomes"

Find your course pre-fix. If your course has two folders, choose the New one.

Click on your particular course.

Click "Add All Outcomes"

Once the outcomes have been added to the course you will see a pop up "All outcomes from (program/course) have been successfully added to this course."

Click "Program Learning Outcomes"

Click your program code. If you are unsure what the code is, you can find it here: <https://catalog.mohave.edu/content.php?catoid=67&navoid=22432> . The program code is in parenthesis behind the program title.

Once you find your program, click "Add All Outcomes" or you can individually add which PSLOs is mapped to your course.

Once the outcomes have been added to the course you will see a pop up "All outcomes from (program/course) have been successfully added to this course."

After the outcomes have finished being added to the course, click "Done"

Click "Rubrics"

Click "Add Rubric." (Note: you can also edit an existing rubric by selecting the appropriate rubric, then clicking "Edit Rubric" on the right).

Click "Find Outcome." (Note: New rubrics automatically creates a default "Description of criterion row." You can either edit it by clicking the pencil, or you can delete it by clicking the trash can.)

IF the key assessment is aligned to a program outcome, click the program's folder. IF the key assessment is aligned to a course outcome, click the course's folder.

Choose the appropriate outcome.

If you don't want the outcome to impact the student's grade, **uncheck** the "Use this criterion for scoring" field.

Click "Import."

Click "Find Outcome" if aligning with more than one program/course outcome, then repeat steps 21 -25.

Click the "Title:" field. Rename your rubric.\ \ (In a previous version of this Scribe, we stated the need to rename your rubric to include the outcome numbers and the phrase "key assessment." This is no longer necessary. )

Click "Create Rubric". Repeat steps 19 - 29 for all key assessment rubrics needed.

Click "Assignments"

Choose the key assessment that the rubric will be assigned to.

Click "+Rubric"

Click "Find a Rubric"

Find your course and click on it.

Click on the appropriate rubric.

Click "Use This Rubric"

Once students have submitted their work, you will need to assess their work in SpeedGrader. \ \ Make sure the key assessment has a rubric with learning outcomes attached. Click "SpeedGrader."

Click "View Rubric"

For each outcome, select either "Meets Expectations" or "Does Not Meet Expectations."

For each outcome, select either "Meets Expectations" or "Does Not Meet Expectations."

Click "Save"

Feel free to enter in a total grade and/or feedback. Once you have completed scoring, click "Submit."
