Navigate to <https://usa.ipums.org/usa/>

Click "Analyze Data Online"

Click "United States, 1850-2022". You will have to create an account and login.

Find the variables you want to use at <https://usa.ipums.org/usa-action/variables/search> Just type in your term and it will tell you the variable to use. For example race comes back "race". Employment status is "empstat". Occupation is "occ", etc.

Type the variables you want to use in row and column.

So for example you could put "race" under row and "year" under column to display race by year.

Under selection filters be sure to type city (4630) to narrow down to Newark. You could also further filter by year. In this example we removed "year (1930)" and just kept "city (4630)" under selection filters.

Click "Run the Table"

This is the result! You get a full table of race in Newark by year!
