Create Assessment Groups in VU Collaborate
Use the Groups tool in VU Collaborate for group submissions and discussions.

Create a Group Category

Login to[VU Collaborate](https://vucollaborate.vu.edu.au/d2l/home), and navigate to a unit space.

On the new navbar, you can locate **Groups** from the **Assessments** tab

Click **New Category**

Enter a **Category Name** and you may also provide a brief description of your groups
The next step is to select how groups are created and how students are enrolled into the groups. In the **master space**, only select options that creates a fixed number of groups, with students added ***manually*** or by ***self-enrolment***: - "**# (number) of Groups - No Auto Enrolments"** - **"# (number) of Groups - Self Enrolment"** - "**# (number) of Groups, Capacity of # (number) - Self Enrolment**" In the **delivery space**, if you ***only have one class***, you can **also** select ***auto enrolment*** options: - **Groups of # (number)**: for example randomly assign students into ***groups of (3)*** - **# (number) of Groups:** for example randomly assign students into **(*10) groups***

In the **Enrolment Type**, select an option, for example: - **Groups of # (number) - No Auto Enrolments**: Create *groups with (3) students per groups*, and manually enroll students. - **# (number) of Groups**: Create *(10) groups* and automatically enroll students. - **# (number) of Groups, Capacity of # (number) - Self Enrolment**: Create *(10) groups* with *(3) students per group* and students self enroll.

Depending on the enrolment type, enter the number of users (students) and groups if required

(Optional) Advanced Properties provides the option to set a start date and close date for self-enrolment

Skip 'Set Up Assessment Dropbox' as it is advisable to first create a dropbox in the Dropbox area and then connect this group to that specific folder. Once done, click **Save**

To make minor changes to the category such as name, descriptions or to remove it, click **Edit Category** from the dropdown list
Manually allocate students into groups

Click **Enrol Users** from the dropdown list

To assign a student to a group, tick the relevant checkbox in the group column. Remove students by unticking the box.

Click **Save** to apply the changes

Click on the numbers in the Members column to quickly view the members of each group.
Export Group Enrolments Data

To **Export** group enrolments, click on **Export** button

Select which group category to export from the dropdown

Click **Export**

Once the export has completed, click **Download** to save CSV file to your computer
