Create a Lightning Alert in Weatherstem

Navigate to your county page ex: [https://leon.weatherstem.com](https://company.weatherstem.com/) Hover over "Personalize" and Click "Practical Lightning Assistant" *Note: You must be logged in as an administrator to access this feature*

Click "New Location"

Name your location ex: "Empire State Building" \ Select the type. *Most users select the "Point" type for a radius OR select "Area" for geofencing.*

Click "Create Location"

Click "Go to Address" If it is a well-known location you can enter the name, if not, enter the complete address. **Optional:** You can zoom in, use satellite, and move the Weatherstem icon to the exact point for the center of your radius.

Right click with mouse or shift-right click to create one or more rings for alerts. \ Each circle represents the radius you want to be alerted to lightning. *To make multiple rings continue right clicking on the map in an area not covered by a ring to add additional rings.* *To delete a ring right click on top of the ring you want to remove.*

Click the button in the bottom right corner to zoom in and out of map.

Click the blue radius listed to change the size of your ring. The Blue checkmark will save your new ring size. Repeat this for each circle.

**Optional:** Click boxes under color to change the color of each circle.

Click the Bell icon to create a new alert. *Note: You can create more than one alert per ring for groups who need different settings.* ***Optional:*** *You can select the "Circle" to change the name.*

Set your repeat interval. *The most common setting is clicking the "No repeat until after all clear" box which will give one alert and hold until the all clear is dispatched before notifying again.*

Click the "Inner circles override" field. Your "All Clear Interval" will automatically be set to 30 minutes. **Optional:** If you want to change this, click the box to adjust.

Enter your alert message. This is what will be sent to your audience when the alert is triggered. You'll need to click the blue checkbox to save. *Tips: Include items like the radius or location of the alert to ensure context for those receiving the alert as well as operational instructions like "Clear the field" or "Stop crane operations".*

Enter an all- clear message that will dispatch when your countdown timer reaches 0. If you do not want a message to dispatch leave this field blank.

**OPTIONAL:** Check the box if you'd like your messages to include a link to the Notification Summary Page. The notification summary page displays storm information including a count-down timer, strike information, radar image, and more! Click the blue "Notification Summary Page" text to view an example

To select where alerts go, click under Devices, "Nothing selected"

Select the devices you'd like to receive notifications from your Devices dropdown. If you are missing your devices please visit the "Devices and Events" tab under the "Personalize" tab You can select more than once device. If utilizing this notification for a group of people please create a "Device Bundle" to group them together

Ensure your alerts are turned into the "ON" position. If you ever need to pause your alerts you can use this slider to manually turn them off.

**Congratulations, your notifications are active!** Read on for optional settings to set hours of operation.

**OPTIONAL:** Click to set up Hours of Operation. *By default notifications that do not have hours of operation set up are active 24/7*

**OPTIONAL:** Click the green rectangles above a particular day to turn off notifications for that day of the week. *Tip: Great for regular weekly schedules. For one-off days read further.*

Set your start/stop times for each active day. NOTE: Hours are on 24 hour clock ex: 5pm should be entered as 17:00

**OPTIONAL:** The weekly schedule is great but the calendar below can be used for more intricate scheduling. Turn days INACTIVE to cancel alerts on those dates and ignore your weekly schedule. ex: holidays and scheduled closure dates **OPTIONAL:** The calendar can also be used to define to ONLY alert on specified dates by marking them ACTIVE. ex: sports game schedule
