Create an Attendance Scheme in VU Collaborate

The Attendance Scheme enables teaching staff to track and record students' attendance. It defines participation statuses for each session, such as present, absent, or sick.

On the navbar, select **Tools** then **Attendance**.

Select the **Attendance Schemes** tab.

Next select **New Scheme**.

Enter the Scheme **Name**.

For each Attendance Status enter a **Symbol**, **Status Full Name** and **Assigned %**. If the status doesn't affect the final score, leave the Assigned % blank (do not enter 0). To calculate a score, at least one status must be 100% (for example, Present).

Example statuses: P (Present) = 100%\ A (Absent) = 0%\ L (Late) = 90%\ Attendance is calculated as:\ (Assigned % total) ÷ Total sessions Example: For 3 Present, 1 Absent, and 1 Late:\ (100 x 3 + 0 x 1 + 90 x 1) ÷ 5 = 78%

You can change the Order of each Attendance Status.

Delete an Attendance Status by selecting the **bin icon**.

Restore a deleted item by selecting the **(+)** icon.

You cannot delete statuses that have data recorded, first unassign, by selecting **None**, in the scheme.

Add additional Attendance Statuses by **entering the number required**, then select **Add Statuses**.

Click **Save**.

When ready, select **Save**, then Close to return to the Attendance Schemes menu.

From the scheme **dropdown menu**, you can **Edit**, **View**, **Copy** or **Delete** a scheme.

You can also set your new scheme as the **default scheme**. The default scheme will automatically be chosen for any new Attendance Registers.

If a scheme has already been used to record attendance, you will first need to unassign the attendance, before being able to delete the scheme.
