Create an Outline in Aristotle

An Outline is a set of class settings and and they can be applied and disabled as needed during class. They allow teachers to save unique standards for different class settings, circumstances & expectations.

Navigate to our Aristotle dashboard. <https://warrenco.aristotleinsight.com/Educator/Dashboard>

Click **"Classroom Outlines."**

Click "Create Outline" to create a new outline.

Name the outline so you specifically know how or when it will be used. Some potential ideas are: - Regular Class - Testing - Catch Up Day

A description is optional, but you have to at least click into the **"Outline Description"** text box to be able to click **"Next."** (The **"Next"** option is gray & disabled until you click in the box.)

Choose the fitler type

**SITE BLOCKING-** Choose the "Filter Type" by clicking on the down arrow. **Allow Filter:** When you click **"Allow all sites except the ones I block"** you have to indicate at least one site that you want blocked. You may block as many sites as you wish. As you type the URLs, they will populate on the right side of the screen under **"Blocked Sites List."** (See next slide.) **Block Filter:** When you click **"Block all sites except the ones I allow"** you have to indicate at least one site that you want to allow. All addresses will appear under the **"Allowed Sites List."**

**Allow Filter:** Once you type the site name (or paste), click **"Block."** **Block Filter:** Once you type the site name (or paste), click **"Allow."** When finished click **"Next"** in the bottom right corner.

In the **"Maximum Open Tab"** field, just like the title indicates, you can limit the number of browser tabs during your class period.

**Alert!** If you decide to **"Close Open Tabs,"** it is possible it will shut everything off and could result in students losing work they had partially completed in another class. If you use this feature, it's best to warn students that they should try to save in advance.

In the next **"Close All Open Tabs"** you can choose whether to do just that during your class. Pick **"Yes"** or **"No."**

If you want to automatically send out a site when you enable this outline, Type (or paste) the URL into the **"Add Site to Open List"** and then click **"Add Site."** You may do this with multiple sites you want students to use. When finished click **"Next"** in the bottom right corner.

**APP BLOCKING-** The final component of an outline is whether you want to block an app. This is done the same way as blocking & allowing sites. **Allow Filter:** Once you type the app name (or paste), click **"Block."** **Block Filter:** Once you type the app name (or paste), click **"Allow."** When you're finished with this last step, click **"Save."**

**Tip!** If you find that your students are going off and finding work arounds by starting a new tab in, let's say Edge, you could block the app during this portion of an outline. **(Block- msedge.exe)**

Once you save, you'll see your outline populate the list. Continual the outline creation process as needed. Leave the **"Custom Outlines"** page when you're finished.

Now you're free to go to your classes and enable the outline. (you may use as many different outlines during a course as you wish, just not at the same time. Click **"Open Classroom"** in the class you want to apply the outline.

Once in the class, click **"Apply Outline."**

Click on the outline you want to use and then click **"Apply."**

You can stop the outline from controlling student computers by clicking **"Remove Outline."**
