Creating Grade Items in VU Collaborate

In a unit space on the main menu, select **Assessments** then **Grades.**

From **New**, select **Item.**

From the Grade Item Types, select **Numeric.**

Enter a grade item **Name**. This should be the same name as the dropbox and the rubric. For example, “Assessment 2- Group Report”, or "Assessment 3: Presentation (Viva)". *Optionally* enter a **Short Name** to display in the grade book. For example, "A2".

Enter the **Max Points,** that the assessment will be graded out of. For example, if the assessment is marked out of 100, the Max Points value will be 100. Also ensure that the Dropbox and Rubric have the same value.

**Weight** is the percentage an assessment contributes to the final grade. For example, if it's marked out of 100 but counts for 50% of the total, its weight is 50.

Review the Grading Scheme, for HE Undergraduate units select the default **(HE Grading Scheme).**

Keep the default Display options. When complete, select **Save and Close.**

At the bottom, select to save and close or cancel

Optional: To reorder grade items select More Actions and then Reorder.

The Final Calculated Grade is automatically generated—ensure the **total equals 100%.**
