Creating a Feature Code Library for imported GIS Data in Trimble Business Center

Creating a GIS Connection

In Trimble Business Center, open a new project and choose the coordinate system that best matches the area you are working with. For this example, we are using NAD 83 (2011) Colorado Central.

Click "GIS" in the top left of the screen.

Click "GIS Connection Manager"

Click here

Click "New"

Type in the preferred name for your connection. For this example we will be calling the connection "WaterDistribution"

Click "Data source type:"

Click "Esri Service"

Click "Connect"

Copy and past the Feature Server URL

Click "OK"

An "ArcGIS login" will pop up on the screen. Type in your login credentials and sign in.

Click "Close"

Read Features from GIS

Click "Read Features from GIS"

Click here

Click "Ok"

Click "Yes"

Get GIS Schema

Next, click "Get GIS Schema"

Click the check boxes to de-select any features you do not need for your scheme

Tip! The features you deselected in the "Read Features from GIS" process should also be de-selected for the "Get GIS Schema" process!

Click "Description" and type in any details you'd like. (This is a required field!)

Click "FXL file name" to name the FXL file and save it to the desired folder.

Click "Export to FXL"

The Feature Code Library is now created.

Click "Unknown"

Click here to change the name of the layer group

Click here to add a layer to a particular group if needed

Click on "View Filter Manager"

Right click here on any layer in the "Layers" tab

Click "Layer Manager"

Here we can edit our symbology of our features to better represent the data you are working with.

Our GIS schema and data are now properly imported into Trimble Business Center.
