Alert! To register an external learning tool, the D2L admin must have the following permissions enabled: - **External Learning Tools** - Launch External Learning Tool Links - Manage External Learning Tool Providers - Create Quicklinks from available External Learning Tool links - Create External Learning Tool links from available External Learning Tool - **Providers** - Manage LTI Advantage Tool Registrations - Manage LTI Advantage Tool Deployments - - **Manage Extensibility** - Can Manage Extensibility

Administrator Permissions.

Alert! If you are unable to access the menu items referenced in steps 3 and 4 below, please contact your institution’s D2L super-admin. They will either need to enable those permissions for you or complete this registration on your behalf.

Navigate to the **"Admin Tools"** gear on your D2L / Brightspace Dashboard.

Copy and paste the following details as shown in the sections below: - **Name:** VHLCentral - **Description**: Vista Higher Learning’s online platform - **Domain:** https://www.vhlcentral.com - **Redirect URLs**: https://www.vhlcentral.com/lti/launches - **OpenID Connect Login URL:** https://www.vhlcentral.com/lti/login_initiations - **Keyset URL:** https://www.vhlcentral.com/lti/keys - **Enable Extensions:** - **“Deep Linking”** - **“Assignment and Grade Services”** - **Roles:** - **"Send Institution Role"**

Click **"Register"**.

Alert! Under **Roles**, choose to send IMS role data for the Institution and Context roles or only the Context role. - If the **Send Institution Role checkbox is checked**, Context and Institution roles are included in the role mapping from the IMS configuration when the tool is launched. The user's Context Role is also included, unless the security setting at the Deployment is set to Anonymous. - If the **Send Institution Role checkbox is unchecked**, only Context roles are included.

The "**Brightspace Registration Details"** dialog box will open showing the process. information for the tool. We recommend highlighting the text in this dialog to **copy and paste, take a screenshot,** and **send to VHL Technical Support** in the **Onboarding Ticket**. Click "**Done"** to complete the Registration process.

Deploy External Tool Link

Once you’ve successfully set up your External Tool link, you will be presented with the following screen where registered tools are listed

Click on the **"VHLCentral"** tool listing to re-open the Edit VHLCentral page. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the **"View Deployments link"** (under Registration Details). The Deployments listing should open.

Scroll to the bottom of the page. Click **"View Deployments"**.

Click **"New Deployment"**.

You will be taken to the **"Deploy Tool"** screen. Toggle the tool to **"Enabled"**.

Copy and paste the following details as shown in the sections below: - **Tool:** VHL Central (from drop-down list) - **Name:** VHL Central Launch - **Extensions** (Check the following options): - **"Assignment and Grade Services"** - **"Deep Linking"**

Change **"Tool"** to your VHLCentral tool from the drop-down menu and **"Name"** to Launch vhlcentral.

Under **"Security Settings"** click **"Org Unit Information"**.

Click **"Add Org Units"** (at the bottom of the page). This will allow you to control who sees the VHLCentral External Tool. We suggest using the **“All descendants”** setting with whatever department or org unit you wish to limit access of the VHLCentral tool to.

- Click **"All descendants"**. - Click **"Add"**. - Click **"Save"**.

Quicklink Setup

It is important that the following permissions are enabled for the instructor to set up D2L **"Quicklinks"** to VHL.

Alert! The **"Manage LTI Advantage Tool Registrations"** and **"Manage LTI Advantage Tool Deployments"** must be enabled through External Learning Tools Permissions.

Click **"Save and Close"**.

On the **Deploy Tools page,** click **"View Links"**

Copy and paste the following details as shown in the sections below: - **Name:** VHL Quicklink. - **URL:** https://www.vhlcentral.com/lti/launches - **Description:** An optional description that will help users understand what this tool does. - **Type:** Deep Linking Quicklink - Width: 980 and Height: 650 - **Substitution Parameters:** This can be left blank. - **Custom Parameters:** This can be left blank

Click **"Save and Close"**.

You will see your **"Quicklink"** is enabled for both **Deep Linking** and **Quicklink**.

Information to Be Sent to VHL Tech Support

Please send the information that was mentioned in Step 12 in reference to the "**Brightspace Registration Details**" dialog box (see below). \ Highlight the text in this dialog to **copy and paste, take a screenshot,** and **send to VHL Technical Support** in the **Onboarding Ticket**.

VHL Tech support will reply once the platform is created and will send you further information.
