Learn how to create a new Work Zone for projects within your agency. Work Zones are designated job sites that notify the traveling public about ongoing construction activity, improving safety for both drivers and workers.

**Work Zones** are designated **job sites** that notify the traveling public about **ongoing construction activity** by leveraging **ticket activity, connected equipment,** and other **agency data**, enhancing safety for both **drivers and workers**.

It is important to note that not all agencies have **Work Zones actively broadcasting**. If you are unsure whether your agency's Work Zones are enabled for public alerts, **check with your administrator** for confirmation.

To get started navigate to the **Project Details** page of a project you want to manage. Click on **Work Zones** from the top options.

This opens the **map view** for the selected project, with all layers toggled off except for the **Work Zones** layer.

The Work Zones pane on the right allows you to **view and manage** work zones associated with the project.

To get started, click the **New Work Zone** button to open the workflow.

Follow the **prompts at the bottom** to start **drawing the work zone** on the map.

You can utilize the various **map tools** on the **bottom right** to customize the **background map view**.

Click on the **map** to place **pins** along the roadway where **construction activity** is occurring. Once satisfied click **done** to continue with the workflow.

Fill in the **required fields** to properly establish the **work zone**.

Hovering over the **info bubble** will display a **detailed description** of the field and its definition.

Scrolling further down, you'll find **optional fields** that provide **additional context** to the traveling public.

Click the **Save Work Zone** button once you are satisfied with the entered information.

Your **work zone** is now saved. **Arm** the work zone to begin **broadcasting**.

To add additional work zones, click the **plus sign** at the **top right** of the **Work Zones Pane**.

Best practices to create a work zone include: 1. Placing **pins directly on the roadways** where work is occurring.

2. Avoid **creating a geofence** around the areas.

3. If the project spans **multiple locations**, create **separate work zones** to freely **arm or disarm** them as needed based on the **day’s work locations**.

4. For **larger roads** (typically **four or more lanes**), it is recommended to **set up two work zones**—one for each **traffic direction**.
