Enabling Nectir AI & Creating Your Course AI Assistant

This guide provides a straightforward process for enabling Nectir AI in your Canvas course, allowing you to create a personalized AI assistant tailored to your students' needs. By following the steps, you can enhance student engagement and support by providing a dedicated resource for course-related inquiries.

The instructions in this guide only apply to courses taught at Cañada College. If teach at CSM or Skyline, contact your local Instructional Technologist for more information.

Navigate to your course in [Canvas](https://smccd.instructure.com/)

From the left side course navigation menu, select "**Settings**"

Click "Navigation"

Scroll down on the Navigation page and find "CC- Nectir AI", then select the 3 dots directly to the right of it.

Select "**Enable**"

Canvas will automatically move Nectir AI into the enabled section. You can rearrange it's placement or select "**Save**" at the bottom

The "**CC - Nectir AI**" hyperlink will then appear on your course navigation menu. **Select the hyperlink to access the tool.**

The Nectir AI interface will automatically load. If this is your first time accessing the tool, you will want to select "**Create a Group**" then select "**Continue**"

Groups are not the AI assistant, but the place where your assistant will live. All assistants must be within a group. Groups become useful when you want to share your AI assistant with other instructors.

Give the group a name. If this AI is only being used for one course, we recommended leaving it as the course name.

Once you've given the group a name, select the "**Create Assistant**" button in the top right corner.

**Give your Assistant a Name**. This is the name that will also appear on the student's end.

When you are ready, select the "Create Assistant" button.

Give your AI Assistant a "Description". Providing a description will tell students what your assistant can do for them.

Select "**Save changes**"

The Assistant itself has now been created for your course. At this point, the assistant isn't trained on your course material yet.
