Sign in to **AWS Management Console** as an **IAM User** **Pre-requisite** - Ensure you have selected the AWS region closest to your location\ For this guide, we will be using us-east-2 (Ohio) as a preferred choice

Type **S3** in the search bar and click on **S3** to view the **S3** Dashboard

**What is Amazon S3 in AWS?** Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is a scalable cloud storage service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It allows businesses and developers to store and retrieve virtually unlimited amounts of data over the internet.

**Amazon S3** dashboard will open, on the left bar click on the **General purpose buckets**

**Buckets** wizard will open, on the right side click on the **Create bucket** button

**Create bucket** wizard will open,give the Bucket name as "**my-aws-replication-bucket**"

Scroll to the **Bucket Versioning** section and select the **Enable** radio button

Scroll the page and click on the **Create Bucket** Button

Successfully created bucket **my-aws-replication-bucket**

Congratulations on successfully creating a bucket for replication!

On the **Amazon S3** dashboard, click on the Name **my-aws-bucket-in28minutes**

**my-aws-bucket-in28minutes** wizard will open, click on the **Management** tab

Scroll to the **Replication rules** section and on the right side click on the **Create replication rule** button

**What is a Replication rule in S3?** A replication rule in Amazon S3 defines the configuration for replicating objects from one S3 bucket to another. This feature enables you to automatically copy objects across different AWS regions or within the same region for redundancy, compliance, or data sovereignty requirements.

**Create replication rule** wizard will open, on the alert click on the **Enable Bucket Versioning** button

give rule name as "**my-replication-rule**" in the text input field

Scroll to the **Prefix** section and type "**replication-bucket"** in the text input field

Scroll to the **Destination** section, select the option **Chose a bucket in this account** and click on the **Browse S3** button

**Choose a bucket** wizard will open, scroll to the **Buckets** section and select **my-aws-replication-bucket** which we created earlier for replication

Scroll the wizard and click on the **Choose path** button

Scroll to the **IAM section** and select the option **Create new role**

Scroll to the **Encryption** section and tick the checkbox **Replicate objects encrypted with KMS Key Management Service(AWS KMS)**

The option "**Replicate objects encrypted with KMS Key Management Service (AWS KMS)**" in Amazon S3 replication refers to the ability to replicate objects that are encrypted using AWS Key Management Service (KMS) keys.

Scroll to the **AWS KMS keys for decrypting sourse objects** section and select Alias **aws/s3**

Scroll to the **AWS KMS key for encrypting destination objects** section and select the option **Choose from your AWS KMS keys**

From the **Available AWS KMS keys** dropdown select the option **aws/s3**

scroll to the **Destination storage class** section

The "**Destination storage class**" refers to the storage class that you specify for replicated objects in the destination bucket when setting up replication in Amazon S3.

Scroll to the **Additional replication options** section and select the options based on the requirement

Scroll the page and click on the **Save** button

**Replicating existing objects** wizard will open, select the option **based on requirement** and click on the **Submit** button

**What is Replicating existing objects?** "**Replicating existing objects**" refers to the process of copying objects that already exist in an Amazon S3 bucket to another bucket within the same region or a different AWS region. This replication process ensures that the contents of one bucket are mirrored or duplicated in another bucket, providing redundancy, disaster recovery, and data sovereignty benefits.

The **Replication rule** has been created
