Export Your ChatGPT Data

If ChatGPT has become your go-to AI tool of choice then its good practice to make sure you have a back-up of it. You can do this at individual account level by exporting. You'll then receive a link to download a file which you can search in your browser or by manipulating the JSON file

Click "Settings"

Click "Data controls"

Click "Export"

Click "Confirm export".

Look out for an email from OpenAI with a link - seems to come within the hour, but not instantly. NB: The link expires after 24 hours, so click on "Download data export" as soon as it arrives.

Download the Zip file and move to wherever is compliant with your security and GDPR policies (if you are likely to have personal or confidential information in the chats). To surface the Chats - look for the HTML file called "Chat" and view through your browser. They will be shown in reverse date order, but you can ctrl F to find keywords/chats OR if you are confident manipulating the JSON file that's also available.
