Force vs delegate printer installation

directprint.io provides the ability for IT admins to force install printers or delegate printer installation to end-users. Follow this guide to learn how.

Locate the Google Workspace menu item in the left side navigation.

Click on "Google Sync Status and settings"

Click on Show "OUs"

I am using the root OU for a simple printer allocation example.

I would like to apply a properties worth of printers to my root OU. To do so, click the "Properties" tab

When you have located the property click the "Add" button

To force install these printers for all users in the root OU click "Save changes"

To check that the printers have been correctly assigned, open the directprint.io application.

Click on the "refresh" icon in the directprint.io application

If everything worked as expected, you will see the printers listed in the directprint.io application.

To delegate printer installation rather than force installation. Navigate back to the printer allocation screen and toggle the "Force/Delegate" option ensuring that it's toggled to "Delegate"

Click "Save changes"

Open the directprint.io application once more.

Click on the "refresh" icon in the directprint.io application

Now you will see that no printers are listed, however this is an additional link to "Manage Optional Printers". Click on this link.

You will be presented with all printers from your assigned property, users can filter the list and check as many of the printers that they wish to install

Click "Enter" to install your selected printers

Your printer list will now show the printers selected for installation. To uninstall, simply click "Manage Optional Printers" and uncheck the printers.

Finally, test printing with your installed printers.
