How To Add Personalization Tokens To HubSpot Emails

Introduction

Customizing your emails in HubSpot allows you to r**eplace generic greetings or fields with dynamic contact properties** for a more personalized email experience. HubSpot's personalization functionality allows you to use personalization in both your email subject and in your email body.

Email content personalization

Navigate to Marketing > Email in your HubSpot account. Open your desired email. Select the text module where you want to add personalization.

To personalize, you must use a **rich text module** in the email. Open your module, and on the rich text toolbar that appears, select **"Personalize"**

Click a **Type (Contact or Company)** and **Token** (see tip below for more info)

**PERSONALIZE LIKE A PRO!** - Choosing **CONTACT** as your type allows you to personalize for individuals: examples of things you can personalize include: First Name, License Level, rider skill level, coach role. - Choosing **COMPANY** as your "type" allows you to personalize for organizations, such as inserting a team name.

Choose your desired "token" to personalize:

Click the "Fallback value" field.

Enter a **Fallback Value** (ex there, Friend) to display...this way, there isn't a blank space if the contact/company token is missing for any reason.

Click "Insert"

Alert! You can also use personalization tokens in the **Subject Line** of any email. 1. In the email editor, click the **Settings** or **Inbox** tab, or click directly into the Subject Line field. 2. Click **Personalize**. 3. Choose the token **Type** and **Property** as described above

Preview and verification

Click **"Preview and test"** in the top navigation bar.

Select **"Preview as a contact"** from the dropdown menu.

Select a contact from the list to verify the personalization token is working correctly. Don't forget to check the mobile version as well!

Click "Back to editing" to return to your email editor when done.

**PRO TIP**! You can also send yourself a test email as if you were a contact, in order to preview your tokens.
