Navigating the Benefits & Pay Hub
1
There are a few ways to navigate the Benefits & Pay hub where you will be able to make your elections. This is what your homepage will look like when you first log in.
2
The first method is to click on the "MENU" that appears on the left-hand side.
3
From here you'll see many different hubs, but for this presentation we want to look for the Benefits & Pay hub.
4
After selecting Benefits & Pay, this is what the hub will look like.
5
The second method to get to the Benefits & Pay hub is by selecting the person icon on the right-hand side and then selecting "View Profile".
6
It will take you to your profile portal where you will see many tabs including the Benefits tab.
7
Change Benefits will be used to enroll or adjust the Parking and Transit FSA, while Change Retirement Savings will be used to enroll or adjust your retirement plan contributions. First up is how to enroll into the Parking and Transit FSA.
Commuter Flexible Spending Accounts
While there are a variety of event types, non-benefited hourly employees and Faculty are only eligible to elect the "Change Commuter Plan" and are ineligible for the other event types.
8
Once you are at this page, you will notice different event types. For Parking and Transit FSA we will select "Change Commuter Plan".
Tip! The event date will determine the start and end dates of coverage. Since the Commuter & Transit FSA benefits are monthly, you want to ensure that you meet the deadlines to start and end this benefit. Example: If you want the benefit for July, then the Benefit Event Date has to be before July 1, 2025.
9
Once you select "Change Commuter Plan" then you will also have to enter the Benefit Event Date. Once that is complete, you can select Submit.
10
You will be routed back to your profile page, and you will get a pop-up alert to begin your election. Select "Open" to begin
11
Click "Let's Get Started"
12
You should see the Commuter plan defaulted to "Waived". Select "Enroll" to see both Commuter options.
13
Click the "Select" field in the benefit that you want to enroll in. If you only want to enroll in Parking, make sure you leave Transit as "Waive" and vice versa. For this demonstration, I will be enrolling in both benefits.
14
Click "Confirm and Continue"
The IRS sets limitations on Flexible Spending Accounts. It's important that you do not exceed the monthly limit between both if you're enrolling in both, or just the one you enroll in.
15
At the top of the page, you will see what account you are enrolling. In this case, the first enrollment is for Parking.
If your monthly permit cost is $20, then you want to make sure your per paycheck contribution is $10 since we are a semi-monthly pay schedule.
16
After you enter your per paycheck contribution, you can hit "Save" to move onto the next benefit.
17
The next step will be to enroll in the Transit FSA by entering the per-paycheck contribution amount and then "Save" when done.
18
You'll be directed back to the Change Commuter Plan screen, and a reminder will pop up that your changes were updated, but still have to be submitted. Here you will be able to review enrollment and per-paycheck cost. If you need to make an adjustment, select "Manage". If everything looks good, you can Review and Sign.
19
You'll be able to see a summary of your elections before submitting, recapping the coverage amount you elected and important dates. For this example, since my Event Date was 6/12/25, my permit will begin in July (see Coverage Begin Date). My first deduction will be taken out on the first paycheck of July, which would be the 6/16/25 - 6/30/25 pay period (7/10/25).
20
When you scroll to the bottom, you will see our standard legal notice. Please read before hitting "I Accept" and finishing off with "Submit".
21
A successful submission will take you to the following page. At the top, you will see "Submitted" and you can also see your Benefits Statement that will have your election changes. To finish, you can select "Done".
Retirement Benefits
22
To enroll or adjust into the Retirement plans you will want to go back to the Benefits & Pay hub and this time select "Change Retirement Savings".
Tip! Benefit Event Date will drive the effective pay period for your first contribution. For example: If you choose an event date that falls between the 1st and 15th of the month, the contribution date will start the following pay period on the\ 16th. If you choose an event date that falls between the 16th and the end of the month, the contribution date will start the following pay period on the 1st.
23
Enter the Benefit Event Date and select Continue.
24
Click "Continue"
Tip! Want to learn more about how both retirement plans work? Watch a short 2 minute video [here](https://www.tiaa.org/public/learn/retirement-planning-and-beyond/pre-tax-contributions-or-roth-after-tax-deferral).
25
You'll see the two different retirement plans that you are eligible to make contributions to. The 403(b) is a pre-tax option and the 403(b) Roth is a post-tax option. You may elect just one or both options by selecting "Enroll".
26
Once you select "Enroll" you want to double-check that the plan you are enrolling is correct at the top, and move the selection from "Waive" to "Select".
27
You are able to make contributions as a fixed amount or percentage.
28
For this example, I want to contribute 5% of my paycheck into the 403(b), so I will select "Percentage" for Contribution Type and enter 5 in Contribution %.
29
I am now redirected back to the Change Retirement Savings page. I will receive a notice that even though I updated my enrollment, my changes are not yet submitted. If I am finished, I can select "Review" but for the sake of this example I am going to also enroll in the 403(b) Roth.
30
I will follow the same steps as the 403(b), but in this example, I want to contribute an Amount of $50.00 per paycheck. Once I finish I will select "Save".
31
You should now be redirected to the Change Retirement Savings page, and you will see your updated election amounts for each benefit. If you need to adjust either plan you want to select "Manage", otherwise, to finish up, you can move on to "Review".
32
You'll be able to see a Summary of the updates you made. Also listed is the Coverage begin date, which is the Benefit Event Date, and the Dedication Begin date, which is when you can expect your first contribution on your paycheck. In this example, my first contributions will show up on my 7/10/25 paycheck since that is when 6/16 - 6/30 is paid.
33
A successful submission will take you to the following page. At the top, you will see "Submitted" and you can also see your Benefits Statement that will have your election changes. To finish, you can select "Done".
View Current and Future Elections
34
To view your current and future elections you can go back to the Benefits & Pay hub.
35
Click "View as Grid"
36
The grid will display all elections in detail including coverage begin and end dates.
Ending or Adjusting Enrollments
37
To end or adjust your enrollments, you will follow the same steps to navigate either Change Benefits for the Parking & Transit FSA or Change Retirement Savings for Retirement. First we will adjust the Parking & Transit FSA by selecting "Change Benefits".
38
I will select "Change Commuter Plan" and for this example, I want to end my permit in July, so I will choose any date before the end of the month. I am selecting 7/1/2025 in this example. To move on I will hit "Submit".
39
I'll be redirected to the Benefits & Pay hub with an action item to complete my Benefit Election. Select "Open"
40
Click "Let's Get Started"
41
Click "Manage" and "Review and Sign"
42
In this step, you will want to select "Waive" for the benefit you would like to end. For this example, I am going to end both Parking & Transit, so I will set both to "Waive" and Confirm and Continue.
43
I'll see that my Commuter benefit now says "Waived" and the "Manage" has changed to "Enroll". If I have to make corrections, I can use the "Enroll" button; otherwise, I will click "Review and Sign" to continue.
44
I am redirected to a summary that shows my updates. Here I can see that the benefit is now waived, and my cost is now $0.
45
To submit the changes you want to read the Legal Notice, select "I Accept", and "Submit".
46
A successful submission will take you to the following page. At the top, you will see "Submitted" and you can also see your Benefits Statement that will have your election changes. To finish, you can select "Done".
47
To end or adjust your retirement contributions, you want to select Change Retirement Benefits in the Benefits & Pay hub.
Alert! You cannot enter a date in the past.
48
In this example, I am going to end the 403(b) contribution and adjust the 403(b) Roth contribution. I want this to take effect on the 7/16/25 pay period, so I am going to make my Benefit Event Date 7/1/25 and "Continue".
49
Click "Continue"
50
First, I want to stop my contributions into the 403(b) so I am going to select "Manage" and "Review".
51
I am going to adjust the selection from "Select" to "Waive" and Confirm and Continue.
52
I am redirected back to the Change Retirement Savings page. If that is the only change I wanted I can select "Review", if I wanted to also waive the 403(b) Roth I would select "Manage", but in this case I want to adjust the 403(b) Roth by increasing my contribution. Select "Manage" and "Review".
53
The select option is defaulted with my current contribution amount so I am going to select "Confirm and Continue"
54
My old amount will auto-populate, so I will override it and change it to my new amount of $100 and click "Save"
55
I'm redirected to the Change Retirement Savings page, and I can see my updates. If they need to be adjusted, I can do this by selecting "Enroll" or "Manage", otherwise, I will select "Review" to continue.
56
I can now review my summary of changes. My 403(b) is waived, and my 403(b) Roth contribution is now $100 with the deduction beginning date of 7/16/25. Select "Submit" to continue.
57
A successful submission will take you to the following page. At the top, you will see "Submitted" and you can also see your Benefits Statement that will have your election changes. To finish, you can select "Done".
58
To review your changes, you want to go back to the Benefits & Pay hub. You should be able to see your current elections, and at the bottom, you can expand to see "Future Benefit Elections and Costs". A better way to see the full detail is by selecting "View as Grid".
59
I'll now be able to see all my changes, including dates: - My 403(b) is ending on 7/15/2025 - My 403(b) Roth is increasing to $100 on 7/16/2025 - My Parking and Transit FSAs are ending on 7/31/2025
