How to Find and Read Messages in Discussions

This guide shows how to find and read posts in a discussion forum and manage your discussion settings.

Access Discussions

Log into [VU Collaborate](https://vucollaborate.vu.edu.au/d2l/home), and navigate to a unit space.

On the navbar click **"Communication"**

Then click **"Discussions"**

The **Discussions List** shows all forums and topics.

Filter by **Unread**, **Read**, or **Flagged** topics.

Click a **topic** to view or start a thread.

Click the **Thread** to view it.

To respond, click **Reply to Thread**.

Read Topic Threads

Click on a **Topic name**, to view a list of threads

Enter keywords to **search** within threads and replies.

**Subscribe** to this topic to get notified about new posts.

From a threads menu

You can mark all posts in a thread as **read** or **unread**.

Click **Flag Thread** to mark this topic for review.

Click **Print Thread** to print all posts on a topic.

Manage Settings

Click **Settings** to choose your preferences.

When you're done, click **Save** to apply your changes.

Click **Subscriptions** to view the forums and topics you're following, and to manage your settings.

Click the **dropdown** to modify your **subscription display options**. You can also choose your **notification methods**.
