How to Post and Reply in Discussions

This guide shows how to use discussion threads in VU Collaborate, including starting threads, subscribing for updates, and editing posts.

Log into [VU Collaborate](https://vucollaborate.vu.edu.au/d2l/home), and navigate to a unit space.

On the navbar, click **"Communication".**

Then **"Discussions"**.

Locate your forum, then **click** to enter a discussion topic.

Click on **"Start a New Thread"** to begin a new discussion.

Enter a **Subject** and **Message**.

To receive updates, tick **"Subscribe to this thread."**\ To attach files or audio, use "**Upload", "Record Audio", or "Choose Existing"** to add your content.

When ready, click **"Post".**

If the topic is moderated, you will see a **Require Approval icon** next to your thread (message). Only after approval, will these be seen by other students.

To reply, open the thread and click **"Reply to Thread."**

If editing is allowed, you can update your post.\ To **edit**, go to your thread or reply, click the **dropdown** next to the title, and select "**Edit Thread"**.

To **edit** a **reply post**, click the dropdown next to your name and select **"Edit Post".**

Make your changes, then click **"Update"** to save.
